Cheap dvd player Questions and Answersi want a cheap dvd player.............. where can i go??Q) i remember asda did some for £30 a while back. anyone seen any really cheap dvd players in shops lately? no more than £30
A) You can get 'em from Amazon.co.uk for about sixteen quid.Want to upgrade my cheap DVD player. Like the Sony RDRHXD-860 but is it worth waiting for Blu-ray?Q) Fed up of poor quality from existing DVD player. Like the Sony with the hard drive although I do have Sky+ already so can I assume that I can use the hard drive on the DVD recorder as additional space to my Sky+ and record DVDs from recordings from both?
Main question is how long will it be for the new Blu ray technology to become truly affordable and would I waste my £300 on the Sony DVD recorder now when potentially in 6 months time, Blu ray could be down to say the £500 mark?
Saying that, can existing DVD's be played on Blueray or would I have to replace my whole collection?
A) Yes, you should be able to burn DVDs from your Sky+ box by connecting a DVD recorder to it.
On BluRay, it's going to take a while before GOOD players come down to £500 levels, as the technical gubbins that go into them are still quite expensive. Saying that, there will be the release of the PS3 for £425 in March 2007. Despite the other answer you CAN play DVDs on BluRay machines, and the player should "upscale" them too (output them in pseudo HD). My advice however would be to wait at least 12 - 18 months before committing to BluRay (or HD DVD) as it's really not clear which format will prevail. You don't want to start building a new library in one of the new formats, only to find out it will have a stunted shelf-life.What's the best cheap DVD player with Divx capabilities?Q) Looking to buy a new DVD player - May as well get one that will play Divx as well. Does anyone have any good or bad experiences to guide me.
Thanks
Dave
A) Samsung has several that support Divx. Samsung has a reputation for making products that never break. Also Toshiba makes good units, as well as Sony. You can find quality players from all these brands for under $60. I would stay away from the no-name brands, as the major brands are almost the same price. My cheap dvd player playback is pixelated and stops and starts - does it just need a good clean?A) If you've had it for a while and it's just started doing this, it probably just needs a clean. If it's new, you've probably got a dodgy one. Take it back and get a refund.I'm looking for a cheap DVD player with a built-in hard drive?Q) What is best in the market and for the cheapest price?
A) The best in the market is NOT the cheapest.
If you want poor sound and picture, with lousy build quality and poor reliablity, then buy cheap. If you actually want to enjoy your movies and recordings, it will cost around £200-£250 for a decent DVD HDD recorder.
Remember - "Buy cheap, buy twice".anyone know of a cheap dvd player that recognises rmvb yet?Q) if possible it would be even better if it was a recorder aswell!
A) Whip into Dixons - they love a bit of it!Where on the high street can i buy a cheap DVD player?Q) My Mother wants one for X-mas and the cheapest one i have found so far is £20!
A) Curry's do really cheap sets, although my personal favourite is Mapilns electronics. Although I heard ASDA were doing really cheap electronics.
Personally you do still have time to order on line from places such as a Amazon (First Class). Please note that a cheap DVD player will give you cheap results. Many DVD may not play, the unit may be noisy and certain functions may not work.
You get the quality you pay for.Does anyone know where i can buy a cheap DVD player around Clapham / Battersea area this evening?A) argos 17.99,
cheap and cheerfulAny one know a cheap multiregion dvd player available in the UK?A) I bought my brother one for his b/day a few months back in ASDA - about £40 or so..which I thought was very reasonable! What's the cheapest multi-region DVD player available on the High Street?Q) (UK QUESTION)
I'm looking for a cheap DVD player that can play discs from all regions (Region 1 especially).
I bought an Acoustic Solutions one from Argos years ago but cannot find the model these days.
I'm based in the West End of London so plenty of shops available to me. (I'd prefer to go back to Argos though!)
Don't just type in a random shop - it's just stupid and a waste of my time.
Links would be helpful.
Thanks!
A) I got my region free player a couple of years back at Richer Sounds for £40.
EDIT: How rude you are! I'm surprised that you are in London and have never heard of Richer Sounds.
Can anyone reccommend a cheap dvd player that gives a good clean sound?Q) I currently have 2 cheap dvd players - a Yamada GDVD301RP player (£39 from Amazon) and a Goodmans DVD 5501 writer (£65 from Tesco). I want to pipe the sound through a high-end amplifier (Arcam). Unfortunately, the Yamada sound quality is muffled, flat, and lacking any kind of real quality or depth. The Goodmans on the other hand gives a reasonable sound with good tonal qualities - unfortunately, it does not have any form of volume control which I need.
Can anyone reccomend a cheap DVD player (with volume control) that gives a very good quality sound (from Mp3 disks)?
A) There's really maybe only one or two (especially if cheap) at best DVD players out there with a volume control unless you get one with a volume control on the headphone output and connect the amp to that output (via Y-stereo adapter). Sound quality will suffer somewhat however.
My recommendation to you is to either use the (if your TV has a variable audio output) TV for volume control, or better yet, get a A/V preamplifier. Unless you can find one on auction, you're going to have to spend more to achieve the results you want. I mean, you have an Arcam amplifier, so why not at least invest in a moderately priced DVD player. I recommend one of the (virtually) universal OPPO models.

L i s t e n i n g !Cheap DVD player with DVI output?Q) I am looking to buy a cheap DVD player that has DVI output to my HD LCD TV. Can anyone suggest a brand or link to a certain product?
I guess I can order one online but can also get one at Best Buy or Circuit City, etc. Thanks

i have the top one which is now £30Cheap dvd player vs expensive?Q) I'm in the market for a new dvd player. I just want it to play movies. So what's the difference between a $30 dvd player and a $200 player?
A) Hmm, not much really, a decent DVD player will cost between $40 to $70, just has long as it has a progressive scan feature you should be fine, and only some TV's support progressive scan through component cables, if your TV doesn't support progressive scan then just get the cheapest DVD player out there with somewhat good reliability. The more expensive up converting DVD players that claim to convert 480p to 720 or even 1080i don't bother, the difference is so minor the normal person probably wouldn't even be able to tell. If you have a HDTV and can afford to buy Blu Ray or HDDVD i suggest u do so otherwise just get he best deal on a decent progressive scan DVD player.Where to buy a cheap DVD Player?Q) My old DVD player broke and I am moving into my new aparmtment next week. I need a new DVD player preferbly 30-50 bucks. Even better if it is a VHS/DVD combo. I don't really care the brand as long as it works.
I know Target, WalMart, Best Buy all have them I'm just looking for people who got a decent one at a certain store. Thanks!

in your area. local, and cheapI need a cheap(ish) DVD player with remote volume control and 192khz audio DAC.?Q) Hi
I am looking for a cheap(ish) DVD player but it MUST have the following features...
A volume control on the remote - this is essential!
192 khz DAC audio quality (not 96khz as many are)
DVI ir HDMI output (or at the very least true RGB scart output (not component Cr Y Cb etc))
A lot of the cheap machines out there seem to offer the Audio DAC's and digital connections, but it's extremely difficult to determine if there is a volume control on the remote - which is the very reason I'm changing from my old player.
I would really appreciate any suggestions - thanks.
A) Oppo does all of this with out the volume control, why not just use the volume control from the recever or the TV, or if you are useing Headphones just buy a headphone vol. switch
theh 192 Khz is also only going to work on things that are recorded that way,SACD, DVD-A. DVD is only recorded at 47 KhzCan anyone recommend a cheap portable DVD player that is unlikely to break?Q) I'm looking for a cheap ($100 or less) portable DVD player with a 7" screen. I don't expect the highest quality for that price, but would like something that's not going to break in a year.
A) CyberHome DVD player's are always a safe bet.
I've had mine for a year and it's still working great!
Enjoy. What's the best cheap DVD that player will play ANYTHING?Q) I need a new single disc DVD player. I need something that will play NTSC & PAL as well as all manner of CD-R & DVD+/-R(W)discs. It also needs to play DivX and if possible Xvid, something that played WMV and/or AVI files would be great. MP3 playback is essential. I have had players in the past that were supposed to play DVD-R discs, but some would only play discs that met the most stringent DVD authoring standards, that's no good for me, I need something that is VERY forgiving. DOes anybody have any suggestions for me?
Oh yeah, JPEG viewing is also a big plus. If you know, the max number of JPGs that can be viewed from a disc would also be good to know. My old one had viewing, but only 256 files per disc!
A) Philips DVP-642. At about $60 at your local Target or Best Buy ($50 on Amazon!), it's still pretty widely available.
- Converts PAL properly to NTSC (i.e. some cheapies don't do the aspect ratio right)
- Hackable to make it region-free by pressing a code on the remote
- Plays CD-R, DVD-R, DVD+R, and DVD+RDL
- Plays MPEG1 (.mpg), DivX and XviD (although it does have problems with the qpel codec, but that's a relatively rare thing); it tries its darndest with all sorts of other files, and often succeeds (I figure no player is perfect in this regard). Philips sporadically releases firmware updates that expand its repertoire of formats.
- Plays MP3's. Like most DVD players, it's an afterthought and navigation is pretty Mickey-Mouse, but it does its thing.
- Displays JPG's. Again, this sort of feature is an afterthought with most DVD players. I don't know its limitations, but I'm pretty sure that it can handle typical pictures well enough; I wouldn't say the same if you tried to feed it a 50-megapixel, 100MB-size image.
- Component video out with switchable progressive scan (as opposed to some players where component out is only progressive), coax and optical digital audio. No DTS decoder but it outputs DTS for your audio receiver to decode.
In short, this is my primary DVD player, I can attest personally to its capabilities, and if I had tons of money and was feeling generous, I would buy one for each of my friends.Where can i get i cheap DVD portable player?Q) I want to get a portable dvd player, that is a good brand but i dont want to spend to much money????? CAN YOU HELP ME
A) A friend of mine picked up a Durabrand one from Walmart for 60 bucks on sale, and so far has had no problems with it.
